FORRT AI in Metascience Online Conference

How can AI and large language models help us understand and improve how science works — and how are they changing science itself? To explore these questions, we are inviting submissions for the FORRT AI in Metascience Online Conference.
When: 28–30 September 2026 (time-zone inclusive)
Where: Online — free to attend
Submission deadline: 31 July 2026 (23:59 in your own time zone)
Speakers who opt in will have their talks shared on the FORRT YouTube channel.

This is not just a series of talks. The conference is designed to build capacity and cultivate community at the intersection of AI and meta-research. We want to explore how AI can accelerate our understanding of science, while also critically engaging with its ethical, practical, and systemic effects on research.
We welcome submissions from all career stages, including (meta-)researchers, software engineers, librarians, and editors.
Ways to contribute
Expand each format for examples and the details you’ll be asked to provide.
Talks, Symposia & Lightning Talks
Share results from AI-enabled research, present practical experiences, or organise a themed symposium of 4–6 talks.
Ideas could include: AI for data extraction, claim verification, automated “peer” review, or reproducibility checks; honest lessons from using AI in your own workflow; or a lightning demo that opens up new possibilities.
You’ll be asked for: an abstract (~200–300 words), the presenter name(s) and affiliation(s), and your target audience. Symposia also need a short overall summary and an individual abstract for each presenter.
Workshops & Tutorials
Offer a hands-on deep dive into a specific tool or demonstrate an AI workflow.
Ideas could include: how to work with an API; using coding agents (e.g. Claude Code) for research; building a retrieval-augmented chatbot over a body of literature; or practical use of agentic frameworks.
You’ll be asked for: an abstract (~200–300 words), the facilitator name(s) and affiliation(s), and your target audience (with any prerequisites).
Hackathons
Pitch a project for a team-based, ~6-hour intensive session to co-create tools, resources, or guidelines.
Ideas could include: prototyping a tool, building a shared resource, or tackling a targeted meta-research problem as a team. Hackathons work best with clear aims.
You’ll be asked for: a team name, the team members and affiliations, your project idea, and any technical needs or prerequisites.
