Replications
- A Web Replication of Snyder, Decker, and Bersheid's (1977) Experiment on the Self-Fulfilling Nature of Social Stereotypes, Guéguen et al. (2009). The Journal of Social Psychology. Outcome recorded: successful.
Using a recent and very popular communication medium, our research replicated the results of Synder et al. (1977). Because e-mail lacks the many additional cues (tone of voice, pauses, etc.) found in the telephone conversations used by Synder et al., it seems possible that attractiveness is a more potent variable in e-mail than in telephone communication or in face-to-face communication.
