Request Type: Replication

Scientific Justification

The Valins Effect is a seminal psychological finding relevant for self-perception, judgment and decision making, and interoception. The original article has been cited 1088 times according to Google Scholar as of now and I could not find a replication of it since 2010.

Data Location

Suggested Robustness Checks

See below.

Suggested Deviations

Due to the original study's age, this should probably be a conceptual replication. The original design should be altered to one that does not objectify people. For example, instead of people's attractiveness, participants could rate how exciting an action movie is, possibly with strong external feedback like a VR environment. Special care should be taken with respect to the cover story.
